How to drink tequila

Tequila is called “Mexican vodka”, although the technology for its preparation and the raw materials are completely different. Tequila is made from fermented blue agave juice by distillation. The drink has a nice golden or amber color or turns out to be transparent. It is considered strong alcohol (40 degrees). Color, taste and aroma depend on tequila grade. The best is gold, followed by silver, elite seasoned, seasoned and young, which is sometimes tinted with caramel to make the drink a noble shade.

To try out a drink and enjoy its taste, you need to know how to drink tequila correctly. There are several popular ways. You can abandon any common rituals - just do not violate the basic rules of the use of tequila, then its taste will not disappoint you.

Basic rules of use

Today, some ways to use tequila, resembling original rituals, are widespread. They need to know, in order not to appear savage to the club's regulars, but in fact it is not necessary to comply with them. It is only important not to violate the basic rules of drinking this Mexican drink.

  • Tequila is served in narrow, elongated piles with a thick bottom (caballito), which bartenders are called “horses” in consonance. If they are not available, you can use regular stacks. A standard portion of the drink - 25-35 ml. Sometimes, instead of glasses, use lemon halves, peeled from the pulp and sprinkled with salt at the edges.
  • Before serving tequila is not customary to cool, but it is unpleasant to drink a warm drink. The ideal option is a temperature of about 20 degrees.
  • Tequila should be served as an aperitif or digestif, that is, before or after a meal. To offer tequila as a drink to those or other snacks will be a violation of the rules of etiquette.

Ideally, tequila does not bite or wash down. In Mexico, it is used in its pure form. So does most of her fans all over the world. However, there are several ways to drink tequila with other products, which allow you to soften its taste and make it even more enjoyable.

How to bite tequila

Like any aperitif or digestif, tequila is not supposed to be snacking with anything. The exceptions are citrus fruits, chili peppers, guacamole (mashed avocado, hot peppers and other ingredients). If you definitely need to snack alcohol with something more satisfying, give preference to spicy meat snacks or seafood dishes. Popular ways to use tequila

Inventive bartenders have come up with many ways to use tequila, some of which have become widespread.

  • The international way, or “Lizni! Knock down! Have a snack! ” It will require salt, plain or sea, and lime, which can be replaced with lemon. Salt is poured on the back of the hand, placed in the hollow between the index finger and the thumb. A small slice of lime is pinched between the fingers themselves. Further, in a fast rhythm, they lick the salt, drink tequila, and eat citrus. A little practice, you will do it as a born “macho”. A less extreme variant of this method is this: the edges of the glass are moistened with lemon juice, sprinkled with salt, then it is filled with tequila. It remains to drink the drink in one gulp and eat a cooked piece of lemon. Some mix salt with pepper to create new flavors.
  • The German way, which some Russians call New Year's. Orange, sugar and cinnamon are required. Sugar is not an essential ingredient, but ladies prefer it. The orange is cut into circles, then each of them is cut into two or four pieces. Sugar with cinnamon is poured on a saucer and mixed. Having drunk tequila, the orange is dipped in a cinnamon-sugar mixture, or only in cinnamon, they are eaten with a drink.
  • With chili. A small pod of pepper is eaten either before drinking tequila, or immediately afterwards.
  • “Tequila boom” (another name is “Rapido”). This way is like youth. One piece of tequila and two parts of a carbonated tonic or drink called “Sprite” are poured into a glass. Then cover the glass with the palm so that the drink does not spill, and hit it with the bottom of the table. From such a shake up the drinks are mixed, forming an effervescent foam. The resulting mixture is drunk in one gulp.
  • “Sangrita”. First, Sangrit is prepared - a drink that is a mixture of orange and tomato juice with the addition of salt and pepper. A pound of peeled skin and tomato seeds break in a blender. Squeeze the juice of five oranges or three oranges and two lemons, mix with tomato puree. Add a teaspoon of ground red pepper, salt and sugar, whisk. Sangrita mixed with tequila in a one-to-one ratio. The mixture is filled with "horses". The drink is drunk in one fell swoop.
  • “Submarine” (aka “Mexican Ruff” and “Sea Wolf”). 0, 33 l of light beer is poured into a large glass, 33 ml of tequila are added to it. Fog in the head after drinking this drink is provided.
  • “Bandera”. This word is translated from Mexican as a “box”. The name well reflects this original way of using tequila. This will require three piles. The first one needs to be filled with sangrita, the second one - with tequila, the third one - with lime juice. One after another drinks are drunk in this very order: sangrita, tequila, juice. The colors of these drinks coincide with the colors of the Mexican flag.

There are more extravagant ways to use tequila, but they are less common. You can also drink tequila as a part of cocktails, the most famous of which is “Margarita”.

Margarita Cocktail

Composition:

  • tequila - 60 ml;
  • orange liqueur - 20 ml;
  • lemon juice - 20 ml;
  • ice - to taste;
  • salt - to decorate glasses.

Method of preparation:

  • Moisten the edges of the glass with lemon juice and dip in salt.
  • In a shaker, mix juice, liqueur and tequila, remembering to add a few ice cubes.
  • Fill the prepared glasses with a drink.

The recipe is named after the author - a Texas aristocrat Margarita Sejm. It was created in 1948. According to statistics, in America more than 750 million servings of “Margarita” are drunk annually. In our country, the drink is no less popular.

Cocktail “Mexican”

Composition:

  • tequila - 40 ml;
  • lemon juice - 20 ml;
  • pineapple juice - 15 ml;
  • pomegranate syrup - 5 ml;
  • ice - to taste.

Method of preparation:

  • Place all ingredients in a cooled shaker, shake it vigorously several times.
  • Fill a high glass with a drink, serve with a straw.

The cocktail has an unusual and very appetizing shade, it is well refreshed and easy to drink.

Acapulco Cocktail

Composition:

  • tequila - 30 ml;
  • rum (dark) - 10 ml;
  • pineapple juice - 100 ml;
  • grapefruit juice - 40 ml;
  • ice - to taste.

Method of preparation:

  • Mix alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, having cooled them beforehand.
  • Put ice cubes in a tall glass.
  • Fill a glass with a cocktail.

A drink is served with a straw, it can be decorated with a pineapple slice or a cocktail cherry. The drink is light, like ladies, especially young girls.

Cocktail “Clouds”

Composition:

  • sambuca - 10 ml;
  • tequila (silver) - 10 ml;
  • absinthe - 5 ml;
  • cream liqueur - 3 ml.

Method of preparation:

  • Pour the sambuca into a pile.
  • Pour tequila on top.
  • Add drops of liquor.
  • Gently add absinthe.

Serve the cocktail without stirring. It looks original, the taste also has an unusual one. Treats number of strong cocktails therefore it is not recommended to lean strongly on it not.
