2. For coloring Easter eggs, we took yellow onion peel, beets and red cabbage, and from spices - paprika, thyme, black pepper and turmeric. For 15 minutes, boil beetroot cut into cubes in different containers (after which it can be used to make vinaigrette), red cabbage divided into several parts (at the end of cooking, it becomes white and its decoction is blue) and onion peel.

It is important to remember that water should only slightly cover the contents of the containers: so our coloring solution will become more saturated, and, therefore, Easter eggs will look brighter and more elegant. A bit of history

Even in pre-Christian times, the egg for many nations in many countries was a symbol of life and birth. Even the universe for some nations seemed out of eggs. Attitude to the egg, as a symbol of birth, is reflected in the beliefs and customs of the Egyptians, Persians, Greeks, Romans. Among the Slavic peoples, the egg was associated with the fertility of the earth, with the spring revival of nature. The tradition of egg coloring also appeared long before Christianity, in ancient times. Carved ostrich eggs, about 60,000 years old, are found in Africa. Painted eggs, as well as gold and silver, are found in the graves of ancient Sumerians and Egyptians, dating back to the beginning of the 3rd millennium BC. e. In Iran, it is customary to paint eggs on Novruz - a holiday that has Zoroastrian roots.

Eggs painted in one color are called “Krashenkami”. If spots, strips, specks of a different color are located on a common colored background - this is “krapanka”. In the olden days, “eggs” were also popular - eggs painted by hand.

Historians point out that Easter eggs reflected ideas about the universe, and, apparently, Easter eggs existed among the Slavic peoples before the adoption of Christianity.

At the beginning of the 20th century, eggs were very popular and loved. They spent a lot of time painting eggs, the family spent the whole evening of Great Thursday, because they baked cakes on Good Friday, and consecrated them on the night of Great Saturday and Sunday. “Painted” eggs with colored paints and melted wax. Painted so the eggs were painted in places not touched by wax. Sometimes various colored patterns and decorations were stuck on the colored eggs from golden or silver foil. According to Christian tradition, the first Easter egg, Mary Magdalene, presented to the Roman emperor Tiberius. When Mary came to Tiberius and announced the Resurrection of Christ, the emperor said that it was just as impossible as the fact that the hen's egg would be red, and after these words the hen's egg, which he held, turned red.

According to another, more domestic version, the custom is associated with Lent, during which, according to the rules, many foods, including eggs, cannot be eaten. The people, wanting to save the eggs, cooked them, and in order not to be confused with uncooked ones, they painted them mostly using natural dyes. Soon the urgent need turned into a tradition accompanying the Easter holiday.
