Meat balls in vegetable sauce with mashed potatoes - a simple main dish, prepared based on Italian cuisine. A more common name for this dish is meatballs or meatballs. However, the Italians (and not only them) call such small round cakes meat balls. Cutlets are first fried until golden brown, and then stewed in a thick vegetable sauce - it turns out very tasty, just delicious!
For a side dish of meatballs, we will prepare tender mashed potatoes, for what could be more delicious than a burgers with potatoes and thick vegetable gravy!

Ingredients for Italian style meatballs with mashed potatoes
For meat balls:
- 600 g minced meat;
- 1 onion;
- 1 egg;
- 1.5 tablespoons of cornstarch;
- spices for cutlets, salt, oil for frying.
For vegetable sauce:
- 2 onions;
- 1 carrot;
- 2 red bell peppers;
- 100 g of tomato puree or tomato paste;
- salt, sugar, olive oil.
For the garnish:
- 800 g of potatoes;
- 50 g cream 10%;
- 35 g butter.
Method of cooking Italian meatballs in vegetable sauce
We start with the sauce for the meatballs, he needs time to get to the desired condition. So, finely chop the onions.
Pour into a deep broiler or a wide stew-dish 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil, put onions.
Wash carrots, scrape, rub on a large vegetable grater. Add the grated carrot in the roaster.
Red bell pepper cleaned of seeds, cut into rings. Add chopped peppers to onions and carrots.
Put the tomato puree, salt, pour some sugar to balance the flavors and close the roaster tightly. Cook on low heat for 35 minutes.
Tomato paste or tomato puree will replace canned tomatoes in their own juice.
In the meantime, prepare meat balls for the meatballs. In the cooled stuffing break fresh chicken egg.
Add the onion, grated or ground in the shredder.
Pour salt and seasoning for meatballs.
Then pour corn starch (you can replace the potato).
Knead the minced meatballs well for 5-6 minutes. The stuffing should be thoroughly mixed, like dough.
